Febit Biomed GmbH. (11/28/11). "Press Release: Focus on Biomarkers – Febit GmbH Becomes Comprehensive Biomarker Center GmbH". Heidelberg.

Experts for identification and analysis of biomarkers now operate under a new company name

As of December 1, 2011 the febit biomed GmbH provides its services in biomarker analytics under its new name "Comprehensive Biomarker Center Gmbh" (CBC).

The company based in Heidelberg, Germany, has already been working in the biomarker field for several years. In the last couple of years its activities increasingly focussed on this core business which is now reflected in the company name as well.

The Comprehensive Biomarker Center GmbH provides services based on established technological platforms of renowned suppliers, supporting its customers in the identification and characterization of microRNA biomarkers. This types of biomarkers enables individually targeted therapies in personalized medicine, e. g. for cancer, Alzheimer?s disease and multiple sclerosis.

Jochen Kohlhaas, co-chief executive officer at CBC GmbH and its predecessor company, is convinced that the rebranding will help to promote the business of the biomarker specialists: "I am very proud of our long-standing colleagues. During numerous collaborations and customer assignments they met very complex challenges, being able to contribute valuable know-how on biomarkers and gather highly useful experience for future projects. The new name will help us to communicate and promote our core competences even better."

Within the framework of the Biomarker Discovery Center funded by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research), the CBC experts impressively demonstrated the efficacy of targeted biomarker research: collaborating with more than 100 partners in medicine and life science - including the Charité in Berlin and the German Cancer Research Center - the biotechnologists based in Heidelberg have identified biomarker signatures for 40 different diseases in a total of 300 studies.

During the last two years, the company generated a total of USD 3.75 million in sales and expanded its intellectual property portfolio by 16 new patents on biomarker signatures for a broad spectrum of diseases.
