– Contract with investment firm Robos GmbH signed for construction of a new industrial building

Sartorius Stedim Systems GmbH, a subsidiary of Sartorius Stedim Biotech (SSB), is optimizing its production operations and expanding its capacity, especially due to rising demand for single-use bioreactors. The biotech supplier intends to combine its work and production areas that have been separate so far in order to streamline operations and will therefore be moving to a new plant to be built in the industrial zone in the German city of Guxhagen. Today, the lease agreement was signed by Volker Niebel, member of the board of Sartorius Stedim Biotech; Hans-Peter Casel, managing director of Sartorius Stedim Systems; and Karl Kördel, managing director of the investment firm Robos GmbH based in Guxhagen. At Sartorius Stedim Systems' current site in Melsungen of northern Hesse, which is around 20 km (12 mi.) away from Guxhagen in the same region, opportunities for further growth have largely been exhausted. The cost of this building project will amount to approximately 14 million euros for the investor. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2011; the SSB subsidiary plans to relocate in the first quarter of 2012.

The new building will be constructed under contract by Robos GmbH, a leasing company of the forwarding agent Heinrich Kördel based in Guxhagen, and will be rented by Sartorius Stedim Systems under a long-term agreement. With an area of roughly 8,600 square meters (~93,000 sq. ft.), the new building provides nearly 50% more office and production space compared with SSB's current Melsungen site measuring 5,700 (61,000 sq. ft.). The new building complex covers a large, one-storey production hall and workshop facilities as well as a modern office wing. The new site is directly located off the A7 freeway, 10 km (6 mi.) from Kassel and 60 km (37 mi.) from Göttingen.

"We are happy to have found such a capable partner and investor for our building project as Robos. The new building complex in Guxhagen will create entirely new production conditions. It will enable us to significantly optimize our process operations and enhance collaboration among our individual departments and units," said managing director Hans-Peter Casel. "Moreover, the new site is also a good solution for our employees, most of whom live in the region," continued Casel.

The contract was signed today in the presence of representatives from the political and business communities. For example, First District Councillor of Schwalm-Eder, Winfried Becker; the Mayor of the community of Guxhagen, Edgar Slawik; and Hans Georg Korell from the municipal committee for the promotion of business development attended the signing ceremony at Wilmar Rüttger's architect's office based in Melsungen.

Sartorius Stedim Biotech is a leading international supplier in the field of fermentation. The Group company Sartorius Stedim Systems manufactures bioreactors and fermentors, filtration equipment and further systems for customers in the biopharmaceutical industry, and currently employs some 220 people. Before being acquired by Sartorius in 2000, Sartorius Stedim Systems belonged to the B. Braun group.
