Israel Advanced Technology Industries (IATI), Israel’s umbrella organization of the high-tech, life science and other advanced technology industries will host the MIXiii Health-Tech.IL Conference next month, March 5-6 in Jerusalem. The event will showcase Israel’s contributions to the global life science industry and demonstrate how Israeli companies have continued to deliver during war.

The conference will host more than 130 expert speakers and cover a broad range of topics including the use of AI in hospitals, rare disease therapeutics and advances in foodtech and bioconvergence. This year, the conference will unite four separate events under one roof including the Israel Technology Transfer Network Conference, a digital health startup competition run by EY and the annual Israeli Ophthalmology Innovation Summit. Additionally, for the first time, the conference will allow for full virtual participation for those who cannot attend in person.

“Despite the shockwaves of war impacting the entire Israeli startup ecosystem, companies in the life sciences sector have continued to shine,” said Yaacov Michlin, MIXiii Conference Chair and CEO of BioLight Life Sciences Ltd. “This year’s conference provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate the resilience of Israeli technology companies during this challenging time and to celebrate the global impact of health tech, biotech and foodtech advances originating from Israel.”

There are approximately 1,800 active life sciences companies in Israel with over 1,500 companies established over the last decade, according to IATI research. These companies are making an impact, with industry exports growing year-over-year for the last seven years, reaching $3.2 billion in H1 2022. This success has come in spite of fundraising challenges for many startups - just $1.4 billion was raised in H1 2023 compared to $2.4 billion in the same period last year.

Despite this, the industry saw a 15 percent increase in the average deal amount to $17.2 million, the highest in the last five years. In addition, funding for Israeli medical device companies increased by 50 percent in H1 2023 compared to H1 2022, while the average deal size for these companies increased by 80 percent. Moreover, public funding, led mainly by public offerings in the US, increased significantly in H1 2023, surpassing the funds raised through public offerings in the full year of 2022. The full 2023 Annual Report will be unveiled at the MIXiii conference.

“Israel continues to lead the world in health tech and life science innovation, bringing advancements to health systems across the world and propelling the transformation to digital health,” said Karin Mayer Rubinstein, CEO & President of Israel Advanced Technology Industries. “Despite recent challenges we are encouraged to see the local industry continue to grow and further its impact on global populations. The upcoming MIXiii Health-Tech.IL conference will unite the community and chart the way forward for Israel’s role in global healthcare.”

At the conference, the Israel Innovation Authority is expected to announce a new data sharing program between health maintenance organizations (HMOs), hospitals and startups. The initiative will enable local startups to leverage large amounts of patient data to develop new health and medical technologies for preventative care, diagnostic support and precision medicine.
